You go on through life thinking everything would be alright then at one point you were suddenly diagnosed with cancer. How would you feel?

Do you think you will see the world the same way you did before? Would your perspective of things be different? How would you proceed on living, knowing the condition you have?

Cancer may strike anyone regardless of age, gender, race and religion. One with cancer will have mutated cells that will propagate uncontrollably and will destroy the other cells of the body. The cancer cells will have the tendency to spread throughout your body. Some will develop tumors while others will not. One should also note though that not all tumors are cancerous.

Cancer is caused by either internal or external factors or a combination of both. The internal factors include metabolic mutations, those of one's hormones, and inherited mutations. External factors include exposure to chemical radiation, UV radiation and tobacco.

Knowing these factors will help in avoiding the risk of cancer cells to develop inside the body. While one will have limited control with internal factors, one can take a proactive approach with the external factors. Lifestyle changes can be made for avoidance of triggering the development of cancer cells.

Cancers are classified in consideration of the type of tissue and part of the body it initially originated. There are five major categories of cancer, and these are:
  1. Carcinoma
  2. Sarcoma
  3. Myeloma
  4. Leukemia
  5. Lymphoma

Carcinoma which is perhaps the most common type of cancer - affects the body parts as the skin, breast, prostate and lungs.

Sarcoma affects muscles, bones and tendons and is usually a case for younger patients.

Myeloma affects the bone marrow and will complicate one's health condition - as it brings about other illnesses as anemia, bone damage and ineffective immune system.

Leukemia is commonly referred to as a cancer of the blood. This condition is one wherein there is an uncontrollable propagation of immature white blood cells. Aside from a weakened immune system, one will experience fatigue.

Lymphoma wherein it affects nodes of the lymphatic system, brain, spleen and tonsils. Such type of cancer will usually result to solid tumors.

Having cancer will indeed make things a little more complicated for you especially if you have just received the news from the doctor and you quite do not know how to react. You might still be in disbelief and may still be coming to terms with the reality you are faced with.

Having cancer is not as easy as any other illnesses since with other sicknesses, your chances of recovery are higher than when you have cancer. It may take a while, but you should understand that only with sincere acceptance on your part of your condition will you start to have peace of mind. Accept the fact that there may be more challenges for you along the way - you just have to reach deep inside and be willing to fight back for another chance of life.

Follow your doctor's advice and be consistent with your medication. Subscribe to healthier living and take on that spiritual journey. Be at peace with yourself and enrich yourself with the Word of God; be full of hope and know that there is a Higher Power that looks after you.

Be happy and surround yourself with your family and friends. Enjoy their company and live a simple & contented life. More than the medicines you are taking for your body you should also take care of your emotional and spiritual health. A holistic approach will do much good for you considering cancer is one elusive illness to fight against.
